Directions
Brook farm is located south central Vermont, 2, 3, and 4 hours from Hartford, Boston, and New York respectively Cavendish (Proctorsville), Vermont, on Route 131 is only 20 miles from Interstate 91. Brook Farm is 140 miles from Boston, 225 miles from New York City, and 180 miles from Montreal, Canada. Burlington International Airport, with scheduled jet service is a two hour drive. There are several regional airports with commuter airline service in the nearby communities. There is a helicopter landing area at Brook Farm. Bus service is available in nearby Ludlow.
From North of Boston:
Take Route 93N to I-89N to I-91S. From I-91S take exit 8 (Ascutney). Follow route 131W for approximately 15 miles (about 1 mile past the town of Cavendish). On your right there will be a small street sign for Twenty Mile Stream Road. This road goes between a green colored house and an olive colored house. Go 4.2 miles on Twenty Mile Stream Road and Bates Mansion at Brook Farm will be on your left...a very large white house with black shutters.
From South and West of Boston:
Take Route 2W to Route 140N to Route 12N. Bypass the town of Keene, NH, and continue north on Route 12. Cross the Connecticut River at Bellows Falls, VT. At Bellow Falls, take Route 5N to 103N through Chester and towards Ludlow. Before you get to Ludlow, you will come to the Village of Proctorsville where Route 103 intersects with Route 131. Turn right onto Route 131. Go approximately 3/4 miles and turn left onto Twenty Mile Stream Road (this is marked by a small green sign that is hidden behind a tree). Go approximately 4.2 miles up Twenty Mile Stream Road and Bates Mansion will be on your left...a very large white house with black shutters.
From NYC, NJ, CT, and western MA:
Take I-91N to exit 6 (Route 103). Follow 103N through Chester and towards Ludlow. Before you get to Ludlow you will come to the Village of Proctorsville where Route 103 intersects with Route 131.
