Marriage License

  • Town of Cavendish

If both the bride and groom are Vermont residents, the marriage license can be obtained in either of your hometowns. If only one of you is a Vermont resident, you may purchase the license from the town of residence. Licenses obtained in this matter can be used anywhere in the state. If neither party is a Vermont resident, you will need to obtain a license from the Town Clerk in the county on which you will be married. The Town Office in Cavendish is located on the corner of Route 131 and High Street and is open from 9 am-noon and 1 pm-4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. While Vermont Law requires only one of you to be present, the Town Clerk may request that both of you appear in person to complete, sign and date your application. You may apply for the license one day before the ceremony and your license will be valid for 60 days from the date of issue. If divorced, a copy of the final divorce decree is required; if widowed, your spouse's death certificate must be shown. The cost for the license is $23.
